Objective of the project TP2 is to contribute to a better understanding of elementary processes in high temperature shape memory alloys. In this framework, Dr. Christoph Somsen coordinates the microstructural investigations on high temperature shape memory alloys of the project TP2. He assists with conventional transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and in-situ TEM investigations. Furthermore, he helps with interpretation of TEM results. Special emphasis is placed on the relation between microstructure and martensitic transformations in high temperature shape memory alloys.
Further research objectives are:
- thermal controlled processes, e.g. Ostwald ripening
- metall plasticity
- functional fatigue
