The role of defects and diffusion on the martensitic transformation in high-temperature shape memory alloys (HTSMAs)

The focus of this project is on microstructure and thermomechanical heat treatments in Ti-Ta-X, Ni-Ti-X and Co-Ni-X systems. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) will be the main characterization tool. Specifically, in-situ straining and heating experiments in the TEM will be employed to uncover the relevant microstructural mechanisms that control functional and structural properties.
